Trade fair construction is a fascinating industry that requires a successful symbiosis of creativity and manual skill. Trade fair construction technicians play a crucial role by supporting the trade fair construction team on-site in the assembly and disassembly of trade fair stands. However, their tasks go far beyond merely setting up stands.
These versatile professionals are responsible for various activities, such as wallpapering, painting, foiling, floor laying, and laminating work, to meet the design requirements of the trade fair stands. Their expertise extends across various materials such as wood, plastic, or metal, with which they can creatively deal.
The path into trade fair construction is as varied as the work itself. Vocational training as a carpenter, joiner, locksmith, electrician, or painter provides a solid foundation for this professional field. The training paths can be diverse, from joiners and carpenters to drywall installers or metalworkers. The training usually lasts three to four years, and further training enables the acquisition of specialist knowledge and skills from other professions.
Regarding earning potential, incomes vary depending on the company, experience, and specific tasks. It is worth mentioning that people without completed vocational training also get a chance in trade fair construction.
However, trade fair construction is not only a matter of craftsmanship but also requires organizational skills. Trade fair builders are the interface between exhibitors, visitors, and the trade fair organizer. They must, therefore, be able to communicate well and have a well-groomed interaction with people. Resilience and flexibility are essential, as it often gets stressful just before the start of the fair.
A balanced family life can usually be realized in cooperation with supportive partners. Additionally, very good German and English skills, as well as other language skills, are advantageous. A car driver's license is a basic requirement, and a C1E license or forklift license may also be required. In view of the advancing digitalization, handling IT skills is becoming increasingly important.
Trade fair construction is undoubtedly an art, but it also brings its challenges. The strains can be high, and occupational disability is a real danger, especially in some trades. Nevertheless, trade fair construction is an exciting field of activity that offers talented and dedicated people numerous opportunities to unfold and prove their abilities. Those who accept the challenge are rewarded with a varied and fulfilling profession.
